About Dr. Anh Bui, PT, DPT, CSCS, USATF1

Dr. Bui describes herself as “a runner first and foremost, and a physical therapist second”. She has 20+ years of running experience competing at all levels from high school, college, to elite distance running. She is a sports orthopedic physical therapist that specializes in the management of running injuries and has provided frequent expert opinion to Runner’s World, The New York Times, Mens Health, and Peloton.

Dr. Bui completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy at Columbia University in NYC. She participated in unique electives including advanced orthopedics, management of the running athlete, and women’s health. She held leadership roles at Columbia’s RunLab clinic, performing running gait evaluations and providing individualized exercise programs to high-level runners.

She continued to add to her running gait analysis repertoire during her sports residency in Boulder, CO, which placed her in the mecca of endurance athletes. Her other unique experiences include studying human physiology and endurance at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Dr. Bui treats no two runners the same and strongly believes your running gait is your unique blueprint. The experience of gathering information from clinical tests on the examination table, movement screens, and gait assessments, and using it to create a custom plan of care for runners brought her passion for running and injury prevention together. She has experience working with high school athletes, NCAA, USATF, elite/professional, and weekend warriors.

On the running front, you can find Dr. Bui running and racing around the Bay Area, as well as major U.S. marathons. She holds a personal best of 37:30 in the 10K and 2:53 in the marathon.

Dr. Bui’s experience—from being a frequently injured high school distance runner, to developing as a community advocate, to becoming a resilient marathoner, and now as a Doctor of Physical therapy—helps her take a holistic and collaborative approach with athletes.
